Run-in sheds provide voluntary protection from sun, rain, wind, and insects, allowing horses to self-regulate their exposure to the elements. A run-in shed for one or two Danish Warmbloods should measure at least 12 by 24 feet with a minimum ceiling height of 10 feet, with the open side facing away from prevailing winds.

Construction should be sturdy enough to withstand both weather and the considerable force a 1,300-pound horse can exert by leaning, rubbing, or kicking. Electric fencing works well as a psychological barrier and is often used in combination with physical fencing to keep horses from leaning, chewing, or reaching over rails. A single electric strand along the top of a board fence is usually sufficient to deter these behaviors. Standalone electric fencing using braided rope or tape is acceptable for temporary paddock divisions but is generally too flimsy to serve as a primary perimeter fence for large warmbloods.

Wire types to avoid include barbed wire and non-coated high-tensile wire, both of which cause devastating lacerations when horses run into or through them. Woven wire or no-climb mesh can be appropriate for smaller enclosures but must be installed with a top rail or electric strand to prevent horses from pressing it down. Climate Considerations

Danish Warmbloods are a European breed accustomed to temperate climates, but they are kept worldwide and must be housed appropriately for local conditions.
