Glass water bottles with stainless steel sipper tubes are the preferred delivery system for most small-mammal keepers, and they are well suited to Multimammate Mouse enclosures. Glass bottles are resistant to chewing, easy to inspect for water level and cleanliness, and do not leach chemicals the way certain plastics can when exposed to sunlight or cleaning agents over time. Dishes should be relatively shallow, no more than one inch deep, to ensure that smaller colony members and recently weaned juveniles can reach the food without climbing into the dish, which leads to contamination with feces and bedding debris.
