The day should begin with a visual health check as part of your morning routine. Before changing food and water, observe the bird's posture, alertness, and activity level. A healthy adult Ring-Necked Dove greets the morning with soft cooing, stretching, and an eager approach to the food dish. Scan the cage floor for overnight droppings, noting their consistency, color, and volume. This daily observation takes only a moment but creates a continuous record of the bird's baseline health that makes deviations immediately noticeable.
Fresh food and water should be provided every morning without exception. Remove the previous day's seed, replace it with a measured portion of fresh dove mix, and wash the food dish thoroughly.
