Calcium is the single most critical nutrient for millipedes. Without adequate calcium intake, their exoskeleton segments become thin, fragile, and prone to cracking during molts. Keepers should provide a constant supply of calcium-rich materials in the enclosure, whether through cuttlebone, powdered calcium carbonate, or crushed eggshells scattered across the substrate surface.
Unlike many exotic pets, millipedes do not require high-protein diets. Excessive protein can actually be harmful, potentially leading to complications during molting.
