In the wild, these birds cover substantial distances during daily foraging flights through South American forests and savannas, and captive housing that constrains movement to a degree where the bird cannot fully extend and flap its wings fails to meet even the most basic welfare standard. The cage is not merely a containment device but the bird's primary living environment, and the quality of that environment directly shapes physical health, behavioral wellness, and the bird's overall quality of life across what can be a thirty-year lifespan.
The fundamental principle guiding enclosure selection for this species is that bigger is always better, up to the point where the enclosure becomes structurally unsound or impossible to maintain. A White-Eyed Conure that spends the majority of its waking hours inside a cage needs enough space to climb, swing, forage, and move between activity zones without colliding with toys or perches at every turn. Overcrowded interiors are as problematic as undersized cages, so the goal is a generous footprint that allows the bird to use all three dimensions of the space.
