The small hatchling container that provided security and manageable water volume during the first months now restricts swimming space and makes maintaining stable water chemistry progressively more difficult as the animal's bioload increases with its growing appetite. Water temperature, salinity, and filtration capacity all need to be reevaluated and adjusted as the terrapin enters this growth-intensive period. Keepers who delay these upgrades often see a plateau in growth rate that they attribute to genetics when it is actually a consequence of environmental constraint.
