GI stasis is a critical concern, as decreased appetite from illness combined with stress of disease and treatment can rapidly lead to gut shutdown, which can be fatal within twenty-four to forty-eight hours. Hepatic lipidosis can develop secondary to anorexia, creating a compounding crisis. Infections are a major risk due to impaired immune function from low white blood cell counts, and even minor infections can become overwhelming. Spontaneous bleeding from low platelets can occur in various organs, potentially causing serious complications. Managing pancytopenia therefore requires addressing not only the underlying cause but also vigilantly preventing and promptly treating these serious potential complications.
