Bread, pasta, crackers, chips, cereal, cookies, and similar products are nutritionally inappropriate and can cause serious digestive disruption in an animal whose gastrointestinal tract is optimized exclusively for raw plant material. Dairy products are equally problematic, as adult capybaras lack the lactase enzyme needed to digest lactose, and consumption leads to bloating, diarrhea, and abdominal pain.
