The spray should produce a fog-like mist rather than a stream to prevent startling the frogs and to ensure even coverage of all enclosure surfaces, which is essential for maintaining the moisture gradient that these frogs depend on for cutaneous respiration.
Automatic misting systems represent a significant upgrade over manual spraying and are strongly recommended for any keeper who cannot guarantee consistent daily misting schedules. Systems like the MistKing Starter and the Monsoon Solo use a diaphragm pump to pressurize water through flexible tubing and specialized mist nozzles mounted inside the enclosure. The pump connects to a digital timer that allows the keeper to program multiple misting sessions per day, each lasting from a few seconds to several minutes, ensuring that humidity targets are met regardless of the keeper's presence. Regardless of the system chosen, water quality is a critical consideration. All misting and fogging equipment should be filled exclusively with reverse osmosis, distilled, or dechlorinated water. Tap water with high mineral content will leave white calcium deposits on glass panels, plant leaves, and equipment nozzles over time, and the mineral residue can build up on the frogs' skin and interfere with their osmoregulatory function.
