The number and distribution of hides matter as much as their design. Provide at least one hide per newt in both the aquatic and terrestrial zones of the enclosure. Hides placed at different heights, different light levels, and different distances from the water's edge give each newt the ability to select conditions that match its current preference. A newt with ample shelter options rests more comfortably, shows bolder behavior during active periods, and is less likely to develop chronic stress responses than one that must compete for limited hiding space.

Handling and Safety Accessories

Soft, fine-mesh aquarium nets are the safest tool for catching and moving Fire-Bellied Newts when hand-catching is impractical.
