Hard mineral chew blocks and pumice stones marketed for rabbits are a common product category, but their actual benefit is debated among rabbit health professionals. Many rabbits show little interest in mineral blocks, and the abrasive effect on teeth is minimal compared to the grinding motion involved in eating hay. Excessive mineral consumption from these blocks can also introduce unnecessary calcium and sodium into the diet. If a mineral block is offered, it should be monitored for intake levels, and any rabbit consuming large quantities should have the block removed and its overall mineral balance assessed.
