Enrichment for stick insects looks very different from enrichment for mammals or birds. A single afternoon of branch collecting can supply an enclosure for months.

Egg cartons and cardboard tubes from paper towel rolls offer lightweight, textured climbing surfaces that can be replaced regularly at no cost. While less visually appealing than natural branches or cork bark, they are highly functional and especially useful in nymph rearing containers where hygiene demands frequent substrate and furnishing replacement.

Homemade foliage holders can be crafted from small glass jars or plastic containers with holes cut in the lid for stem insertion. A ring of foam or cotton around each stem hole prevents nymphs from falling into the water. These simple devices are as effective as purpose-built products and cost virtually nothing to produce.
