A mature Marwari in moderate work generally needs between 1.5 and 2 percent of its body weight in total daily feed, with the majority of that coming from forage.

The operative word is moderation: a few small treats per day are fine, but handfuls of sugary snacks can add up quickly for a breed that already tends to maintain weight easily.

Joint supplements containing glucosamine, chondroitin, and hyaluronic acid are popular among horse owners and may offer benefits for Marwaris in regular work, particularly those used for endurance riding or performance events. While the scientific evidence for oral joint supplements is mixed, many owners report subjective improvements in comfort and mobility. If choosing a joint supplement, look for products that have undergone independent quality testing to confirm that the label claims match the actual contents.

Hoof supplements are another category worth considering, especially if the horse's diet is low in biotin, zinc, or methionine. The Marwari generally has tough, resilient hooves, but horses in wet climates or those with recurring hoof quality issues may benefit from targeted supplementation. Foods to Avoid

Certain foods that seem harmless or are safe for other animals can be dangerous or even fatal to horses. Lawn clippings are one of the most common accidental hazards. They ferment rapidly after cutting and can cause severe colic or laminitis if consumed in quantity. Clippings may also contain toxic plants that a horse would normally avoid when grazing but cannot identify once the vegetation is wilted and mixed together.

Irregular schedules can cause stress, which in turn can contribute to ulcers, cribbing, and other stereotypic behaviors. Even on weekends or during travel, maintaining a feeding routine as close to normal as possible helps keep the horse calm and digestively healthy.

Water should be available at all times, and consumption should be monitored, especially during temperature extremes. A horse at rest in a temperate climate drinks roughly five to ten gallons per day, while a horse in work during hot weather may need twenty gallons or more.
