The juvenile period for an Arabian Mau spans roughly from eight weeks to twelve months of age, during which the kitten undergoes a remarkable transformation from a small, dependent creature into a muscular, agile young cat. Growth during this stage is rapid but uneven. Arabian Maus experience noticeable growth spurts interspersed with brief plateaus, and it is not unusual for a kitten to seem gangly or disproportionate at certain points as the limbs, torso, and head grow at slightly different rates. Males tend to be noticeably larger than females by around four months, and the breed's characteristic lean, athletic build becomes increasingly apparent.
By three to four months of age, Arabian Mau kittens typically weigh between 1.5 and 2.5 kilograms, with males trending toward the higher end. The deciduous teeth begin to shed around three and a half to four months, replaced by permanent adult dentition over the following two to three months. This teething period can cause temporary discomfort, increased chewing behavior, and occasionally mild appetite fluctuations. Providing appropriate chew toys helps redirect the kitten's urge to gnaw on household objects.
The Arabian Mau's short, firm coat requires minimal grooming during the juvenile stage, but this is an excellent time to establish grooming routines that the cat will accept throughout its life. Weekly brushing with a fine-toothed comb or rubber grooming mitt removes loose hair and accustoms the kitten to being handled systematically. Introduce nail trimming early as well, handling the paws frequently and clipping one or two nails per session until the kitten learns to tolerate the process calmly.
Musculoskeletal development continues well beyond the point at which the kitten appears outwardly mature. Arabian Maus may not reach their full adult size and muscle density until approximately eighteen months to two years of age. During this extended growth phase, the skeletal system is still consolidating, and excessive jumping from extreme heights or rough play with significantly larger animals should be monitored to reduce the risk of growth plate injuries.
