While E. cuniculi is often discussed in the context of neurological disease due to its dramatic presentation as head tilt and vestibular dysfunction, renal involvement is actually extremely common and may be the predominant manifestation of infection in many rabbits. The parasite has a particular affinity for kidney tissue, where it establishes chronic infection and causes progressive damage that can eventually lead to chronic kidney disease and renal failure.
