This condition affects horses globally with no geographic restriction, though prevalence increases in humid, warm environments where bacterial growth thrives and skin remains moist for extended periods. Horses of all breeds are susceptible, with increased incidence observed in animals experiencing skin irritation from tack, insects, sweat accumulation, or underlying allergic conditions. The disease occurs year-round but peaks during summer months when heat, humidity, and insect activity create conditions favoring bacterial proliferation and skin barrier compromise.
