Fortunately, most streptococci remain sensitive to common antibiotics including penicillins and cephalosporins. However, prompt diagnosis and treatment are essential, particularly for invasive infections that can progress rapidly. Identifying predisposing factors such as immunosuppression, crowded environments, or concurrent illness helps prevent recurrence. The zoonotic potential of Streptococcus canis, though relatively low, warrants appropriate hygiene measures when handling infected dogs, particularly for immunocompromised household members.
