Spermatic cord torsion is more common with abdominal testicles due to their greater mobility compared to normally descended or even inguinally retained testicles. Cats with untreated cryptorchidism also contribute to overpopulation if they successfully mate, as unilateral cryptorchid cats are often fertile. The hormonal imbalances from retained testicular tissue can affect overall health and behavior throughout the cat's life if surgery is not performed, including increased inter-cat aggression that can result in fight wounds and transmission of infectious diseases.
