Treatment involves gradual dietary transition to nutritionally complete foods, supplementation to correct specific deficiencies, and supportive care for secondary health problems. The prognosis for malnourished birds depends heavily on the duration and severity of malnutrition, the bird's age, and how quickly appropriate nutrition is reinstated. Birds with mild to moderate malnutrition of relatively short duration typically recover well with dietary correction. Severely malnourished birds or those with chronic malnutrition may have lasting effects or complications requiring ongoing management. Young, growing birds are particularly vulnerable to long-term consequences. Regardless of severity, veterinary guidance is essential to identify specific deficiencies, rule out underlying medical conditions, and develop an appropriate nutritional rehabilitation plan.
