The Entlebucher Mountain Dog is the smallest of the four Swiss Mountain Dog breeds, yet presents a compact, muscular, and athletic appearance that reflects its working heritage as a cattle drover in the Swiss Alps. Males typically stand seventeen to twenty-one inches at the shoulder and weigh fifty to sixty-five pounds, while females are slightly smaller, measuring sixteen to twenty inches tall and weighing forty to fifty-five pounds. The body is slightly longer than tall, creating a sturdy rectangular outline with substantial bone and well-developed musculature. Despite their medium size, these dogs possess remarkable strength and agility that enabled them to work tirelessly in challenging mountainous terrain. The head is well-proportioned to the body, with a strong, flat skull and a well-defined stop leading to a powerful, straight muzzle of moderate length. The small, almond-shaped eyes are brown and convey an alert, friendly expression, while the medium-sized ears are triangular, set high, and hang close to the head when relaxed but lift at the base when the dog is attentive. The neck is medium length and muscular, flowing smoothly into well-laid-back shoulders. The topline is firm and level, supported by a broad, strong back, and the chest is deep, reaching to the elbows with well-sprung ribs. The tail may be naturally bobbed or long, carried in continuation of the topline or with a slight upward curve. The Entlebucher's coat is the classic tricolor pattern shared by all Swiss Mountain Dogs, consisting of a jet black base with rich tan to mahogany markings and white accents. The tan markings appear above the eyes, on the cheeks, muzzle, chest, and legs, while white typically adorns the muzzle, chest, feet, and tip of the tail. The double coat is short, dense, and close-fitting, with a harsh, shiny outer coat and a dense undercoat that provides protection from the elements. The coat is relatively easy to maintain but does shed seasonally. This striking color pattern combined with the breed's animated expression has earned them the nickname laughing dogs of the Swiss Alps.

The American Pit Bull Terrier is a medium-sized, solidly built dog that combines athletic prowess with remarkable strength and agility. The cheek muscles are well-developed and prominent, contributing to the breed's powerful appearance. The eyes are medium-sized, round to almond-shaped, and set low and wide apart on the skull. Any eye color is acceptable except blue, which is not preferred. The ears are small to medium in size, set high on the head, and may be natural or cropped depending on owner preference and local regulations. The powerful jaw is well-defined with a scissors bite, and the lips are tight and free from flews. The American Pit Bull Terrier's short, smooth coat lies close to the body and has a glossy, stiff texture that is easy to maintain. The breed comes in all colors and color patterns except merle, which is specifically excluded by both major registries. Common colors include solid shades of red, black, blue, fawn, and brindle, as well as combinations featuring white markings. The tail is set low, thick at the base, and tapers to a point, carried in line with or below the back when relaxed and slightly raised when alert or in motion.
