A fasted frog produces significantly less ammonia and organic waste, which is critical when the animal must remain in a closed, unfiltered container for an extended period. Keepers should also observe the frog carefully in the days leading up to travel, looking for any signs of illness, injury, or stress that might make transport inadvisable.
Researching the legal requirements applicable to the planned journey is an essential part of pre-travel preparation. Because the African Clawed Frog is regulated or prohibited in numerous jurisdictions, any transport that crosses state lines, national borders, or other regulatory boundaries requires verification that possession and transport are lawful at both the origin and destination.
