Unlike Syrian hamsters, which tolerate moderate fruit intake without metabolic consequence, Winter Whites process sugars less efficiently and are at measurably higher risk of developing glucose intolerance when exposed to regular sugary foods. This metabolic vulnerability means that even foods considered healthy for other hamster species, such as ripe banana or sweet corn, should be offered sparingly if at all.
