The macronutrient balance for red-footed tortoises should approximate 60 to 70 percent plant matter, 20 to 30 percent fruit, and roughly 5 to 10 percent animal protein. This ratio shifts slightly with age: hatchlings and juveniles benefit from modestly higher protein intake to support rapid growth, while mature adults may see protein reduced to the lower end of that range.
