A naturalistic forest or jungle scene printed on plastic film eliminates transparency and gives the enclosure a sense of depth and enclosure that calms the inhabitants. These backgrounds do not add climbing surface or physical enrichment, but their ease of application and low cost make them a practical choice for keepers who prefer to provide climbing opportunities through separate branch and cork installations.

Black or dark-colored vinyl applied to the exterior of the glass achieves the same visual-barrier effect with the added advantage of making the skinks' emerald coloration more vivid against the dark backdrop. This approach is the most minimalist in terms of physical enrichment but is effective at reducing stress and is completely maintenance-free.
