These products contain excessive protein and fat levels that can lead to fatty liver disease and other metabolic disorders in herbivorous fish over time. An occasional piece of meaty food is acceptable, but a carnivore-focused diet will cause long-term health problems.

Feeder fish, live brine shrimp cultures, and other live animal foods are unnecessary and potentially harmful for Yellow Tangs. Beyond the nutritional mismatch, live feeder organisms carry a significant risk of introducing parasites and bacterial infections into the display aquarium. The perceived benefit of live food stimulation does not outweigh these risks for an herbivorous species.

Bread, crackers, and other processed human foods should never be offered to any aquarium fish. These products contain preservatives, salts, and refined carbohydrates that are entirely foreign to a marine fish's digestive system.
