Gentle water movement provides ongoing sensory stimulation that keeps Cherry Barbs physically active and behaviorally engaged. A small adjustable powerhead or circulation pump set to a low flow rate can create a mild current zone in one area of the tank that the fish choose to swim against, exercising their muscles and mimicking the stream currents they navigate in the wild. The key word is gentle — Cherry Barbs are not rheophilic fish and will avoid strong currents, so the flow should be optional rather than tank-wide.
