It provides a concentrated source of niacin along with B-complex vitamins and trace minerals that support feather quality, nervous system function, and overall vitality. It can be sprinkled directly onto feed or mixed into wet treats. Foods to Avoid

Several common foods are toxic or harmful to Muscovy Ducks and should be strictly excluded from their diet. Avocado contains persin, a fungicidal toxin that can cause respiratory distress, heart damage, and death in waterfowl. All parts of the avocado plant are dangerous, including the flesh, pit, skin, and leaves. Even small amounts should be treated as a veterinary emergency.

Chocolate and caffeine are also toxic to ducks, as they contain theobromine and methylxanthines that their systems cannot metabolize efficiently. Onions and garlic in large quantities can cause hemolytic anemia by damaging red blood cells, though occasional small exposures are unlikely to cause immediate harm. Dried or raw beans contain hemagglutinin, a lectin that is toxic to birds and must be thoroughly cooked before beans are considered safe.

Bread is perhaps the most commonly offered but least appropriate food for ducks of any species. It provides empty calories with virtually no nutritional value, fills the crop quickly and discourages consumption of proper feed, and contributes to angel wing in growing ducklings through carbohydrate overload. Moldy bread carries the additional risk of aspergillosis, a potentially fatal fungal infection that waterfowl are especially susceptible to.

Medicated poultry feeds deserve special mention as a danger to Muscovies. Feeds containing amprolium, monensin, or other coccidiostats are formulated for chickens and can be toxic to ducks at the concentrations used in standard poultry rations. Feeding Schedule

Adult Muscovy Ducks thrive on a twice-daily feeding schedule with feed offered in the morning and again in the late afternoon. This pattern mimics the natural foraging rhythm of waterfowl, which tend to be most active in the early and late portions of the day. Each feeding session should provide enough feed for the birds to eat their fill within 15 to 20 minutes, after which leftover feed should be removed to discourage rodents and prevent spoilage.

Ducklings require more frequent access to food and should have feed available continuously for the first several weeks of life. Their rapid growth rate demands a steady caloric supply, and young ducklings lack the fat reserves to tolerate prolonged gaps between meals. Seasonal adjustments to feeding quantity are important for Muscovies. Free-ranging Muscovies are remarkably effective foragers that consume significant quantities of insects, slugs, grass, seeds, and small invertebrates. A flock with access to well-managed pasture or garden areas may require 20 to 30 percent less commercial feed than confined birds.
