Temperature regulation inside the home is generally straightforward for Nanday Conures, as they thrive in the same range most people find comfortable — roughly sixty-five to eighty degrees Fahrenheit. The greater concern is avoiding rapid temperature fluctuations and drafts. Placing the cage away from heating vents, air conditioning units, and exterior doors reduces the bird's exposure to sudden temperature swings that can compromise its immune system.

Humidity is an underappreciated environmental factor for parrots. Nanday Conures originate from subtropical South American habitats where humidity levels are considerably higher than the typical air-conditioned home. Dry air contributes to itchy skin, feather dust, and respiratory irritation. A room humidifier set to maintain forty to sixty percent relative humidity benefits both the bird and its human housemates. Regular misting or bathing opportunities also help the bird maintain healthy skin and feather condition.

Lighting plays a significant role in avian health and behavior. Nanday Conures need ten to twelve hours of darkness for proper sleep, and disrupted sleep cycles can lead to hormonal imbalances, feather-destructive behavior, and aggression. If the cage is in a room that stays illuminated late into the evening, a dedicated cage cover or a separate sleep cage in a quiet, dark room ensures the bird gets adequate rest.

Air quality is critically important for birds, whose respiratory systems are far more sensitive than those of mammals. Never use aerosol sprays, scented candles, air fresheners, or non-stick cookware near a bird's enclosure. Polytetrafluoroethylene fumes from overheated non-stick surfaces are rapidly fatal to birds. Multi-Bird Households

Housing multiple Nanday Conures together requires careful planning and observation. While Nanday Conures are social birds that often enjoy companionship, not all individuals get along, and forced cohabitation can lead to aggression, feather plucking, and injury. The safest approach is to house birds in separate cages placed near each other initially, allowing them to interact visually and vocally before sharing physical space.

If you decide to house two conures in the same cage, the enclosure must be significantly larger than what a single bird requires.
