The box should be large enough for the mother to turn around comfortably but cozy enough to keep the kits contained and close to her body for warmth.

Assemble a kit-care supply station near the nesting area before the birth. Useful items include a digital gram scale for weighing kits, clean towels and washcloths, a small hot water bottle or heating pad for emergency warming, feeding syringes and appropriate formula in case supplemental feeding is needed, and your veterinarian's emergency contact information.
