A gecko that has been maintained under optimal conditions its entire life may show very few signs of aging until well into its second decade.
The transition into the senior stage is typically gradual rather than abrupt. You may notice subtle changes such as slightly reduced activity levels, slower feeding responses, or less frequent shedding. These shifts can be easy to overlook in an animal that is naturally sedentary during the day, which is why maintaining long-term health records becomes especially valuable as your gecko ages. It is important to recognize that aging in reptiles does not always mirror the aging process in mammals. Gargoyle geckos do not develop gray hair or obviously slow down in the way a dog or cat might.
