The receiving enclosure should be fully prepared before the expected hatch date so that the transition from incubation container to permanent housing is seamless. Chahoua Gecko hatchlings are arboreal from birth and will immediately seek vertical surfaces and elevated hiding spots, so the enclosure must include appropriately scaled climbing structures and snug retreats positioned off the ground. Temperature and humidity should be verified with calibrated digital instruments before the hatchling is introduced, because environmental stress during the first day can suppress immune function and feeding response for days afterward.
A healthy Chahoua Gecko hatchling will display several reassuring behaviors within the first twenty-four hours. It will grip surfaces firmly with its specialized lamellae, demonstrate coordinated climbing even on vertical glass or plastic walls, and begin tongue-flicking to assess its new environment. The prehensile tail, a defining feature of the species, will be used actively for balance and anchoring from the moment of emergence. Conversely, a hatchling that lies flat on the enclosure floor, refuses to grip when gently touched, or displays labored breathing requires immediate assessment. These early hours establish the physiological baseline for the animal's entire developmental trajectory, and attentive observation during this window is one of the most valuable things a keeper can provide.
