First-time does occasionally scatter kits on the cage floor rather than delivering them in the nest box. If you find kits outside the nest, gather them gently and place them together in the nest, covering them with the doe's pulled fur. Monitor to ensure the doe accepts the kits and nurses them. Postpartum Care

Allow the doe to resume normal activity at her own pace. Most does return to eating and drinking within hours of kindling and resume normal behaviors within a day or two. Provide exercise opportunities but do not force activity, as the doe will regulate her own recovery. Keep the living environment calm and clean, changing soiled bedding around the nest box without disturbing the nest itself.

The doe will naturally begin spending less time with the litter as the kits grow and become more independent. By three to four weeks postpartum, the kits are eating solid food, and the doe's milk production begins to decrease. Weaning should be gradual, typically completed between six and eight weeks.
