The rabbit may become slightly less active during its peak crepuscular hours, spending more time resting and less time exploring or engaging in play. Its movements may lose some of their former fluidity, with a slight stiffness visible when the rabbit rises from rest or navigates ramps and platforms. The coat, which in its prime displayed a vibrant sheen and resilient flyback, may begin to feel slightly coarser or thinner in texture, and the chinchilla banding pattern may lose some of its crispness as individual hairs become less uniformly pigmented.

Once a Heavyweight Chinchilla reaches the age of five, increase the frequency of veterinary examinations from annually to every six months. Semi-annual visits allow the veterinarian to track trends in body condition, dental health, organ function, and mobility over shorter intervals, catching developing problems while they are still manageable. Blood work, including a complete blood count and serum chemistry panel, provides valuable baseline data that can be compared against future results to detect organ dysfunction before clinical symptoms emerge.
