The postpartum period requires careful attention to both the doe and her litter. In the days immediately following kindling, the doe's nutritional needs are at their highest. She is simultaneously recovering from pregnancy and producing milk for her growing litter, which places enormous metabolic demands on her body. Clean water should be checked and refreshed multiple times daily, as a nursing doe's water consumption can be remarkably high.
