For the first few days after introduction, observe the juveniles closely to ensure they are integrating well. If the juveniles are the first of their species in the tank, they may initially school with other similarly sized fish until they become more established. Ich is perhaps the most frequently encountered disease in juvenile tropical fish and presents as small white spots scattered across the body and fins. It is typically triggered by stress, often from temperature fluctuations or a recent tank transfer. If caught early, ich can usually be treated effectively by gradually raising the water temperature to 82 to 84 degrees Fahrenheit over the course of a day or two, which accelerates the parasite's life cycle and can eliminate it without the need for chemical treatment in many cases.

Fin rot appears as frayed, ragged, or discolored fin edges and is almost always linked to poor water quality. The first response should be an immediate water change and a thorough evaluation of tank maintenance practices.
