Prospective breeders should have extensive experience with the breed and a thorough understanding of its health challenges before considering producing a litter.
Physical readiness for breeding requires that both the sire and dam be fully mature, in excellent health, and free from disqualifying conditions. The female Lundehund should not be bred before her second heat cycle at the earliest, and many experienced breeders recommend waiting until the bitch is at least two years old to allow for full physical and emotional maturity. The male should likewise be at least two years old, with confirmed fertility and a clean health screening profile.
