Before considering breeding, both the male and female Catalburun should be at least two years of age, ensuring full physical and behavioral maturity. Pre-breeding health evaluations should include hip and elbow radiographs, eye examinations, a complete blood panel, and a thorough physical examination by a veterinarian experienced with the breed. The dog's temperament should also be evaluated, as behavioral traits are heritable and only dogs with stable, sound temperaments should be selected for breeding.

Whelping Preparation

The veterinarian will check for retained placentas or puppies, assess uterine involution, and evaluate the dam's overall recovery. This visit also provides an opportunity to examine the puppies and address any early concerns about individual puppy health or development.
