Producing Snowshoe kittens with the breed's signature appearance, the combination of pointed coloration, white paw markings, and blue eyes, is genetically complex. The white spotting pattern that creates the distinctive mitts and facial markings is influenced by an incompletely dominant gene that produces variable expression. Even experienced breeders cannot guarantee that every kitten in a litter will display the ideal show-quality pattern.
