However, heart failure remains relatively uncommon in the general captive snake population.

As the heart's pumping ability declines, blood backs up in the venous system, causing fluid to leak into tissues and body cavities. This fluid accumulation, combined with reduced oxygen delivery to tissues, causes widespread organ dysfunction. Affected snakes typically show progressive decline in activity, appetite, and overall condition.
