Chameleons frequently display glass surfing and corner pacing when stressed, while even typically sedentary species like bearded dragons can develop these behaviors under inadequate conditions. The prevalence of stereotypic behaviors in captive reptiles is difficult to quantify precisely, but experienced reptile veterinarians and behaviorists recognize them as extremely common indicators of suboptimal husbandry, with some estimates suggesting that a significant percentage of captive reptiles display at least mild stereotypic behaviors at some point in their lives.
