Because reptiles are ectothermic, their immune function is directly tied to environmental temperature, meaning that improper husbandry conditions can significantly worsen disease outcomes. Animals maintained at suboptimal temperatures may experience more severe clinical signs, prolonged illness, and higher mortality rates compared to those kept under appropriate thermal conditions.
