Heavy infections, particularly in young or immunocompromised dragons, can cause severe diarrhea, dehydration, weight loss, failure to thrive, and even death. Early detection through routine fecal examination allows treatment before severe damage occurs. With proper treatment and supportive care, most bearded dragons recover well from coccidiosis. However, reinfection is common due to environmental contamination, making thorough disinfection and ongoing monitoring essential components of successful management.
