GI stasis can develop following surgery if pain or stress suppress appetite, emphasizing the importance of maintaining food intake after any procedure. Very large lipomas may cause pressure necrosis of overlying skin if they grow to substantial size before intervention. Although lipomas do not transform into malignant tumors in the vast majority of cases, the rare possibility of malignant change to liposarcoma means that any lipoma showing rapid growth or changing character should be reassessed. Multiple lipomas in the same rabbit are not a complication per se but do occur in some individuals predisposed to these tumors.
