Hepatic lipidosis develops when rabbits stop eating and mobilize fat stores, overwhelming the liver. Secondary bacterial infections may complicate initially simple inflammation. Chronic colitis may lead to intestinal damage, strictures, or permanent alterations in gut function. Malnutrition and weight loss occur when digestion and absorption are impaired. Prevention of complications requires prompt treatment, nutritional support to maintain eating, and careful monitoring for deterioration. Most complications are preventable with appropriate early intervention.
