Since rabbits cannot vomit, gastric decontamination relies on other methods such as activated charcoal administration to reduce absorption of toxins remaining in the digestive tract. Supportive care addresses symptoms as they develop, including fluid therapy for dehydration and medications to control cardiac arrhythmias or seizures if they occur. The prognosis depends heavily on the amount and type of chocolate ingested, the rabbit's size, and how quickly treatment begins. Prevention remains the most effective approachâkeeping all chocolate and cocoa products completely inaccessible to rabbits eliminates the risk entirely.
