Treatment of calcium deficiency involves identifying and addressing the underlying cause while providing appropriate supplementation. For dietary deficiency, correcting the diet to ensure adequate calcium intake is essential. More severe cases may require oral or injectable calcium supplementation under veterinary supervision. Concurrent vitamin D deficiency must also be addressed. Pregnant or nursing does with acute hypocalcemia require emergency treatment. With early recognition and appropriate intervention, many effects of calcium deficiency can be reversed, though some skeletal changes may be permanent.
