Several conditions may coexist with or be confused for laryngeal paralysis, making accurate diagnosis important. Hypothyroidism is commonly evaluated in dogs with laryngeal paralysis due to the association between the two conditions, though treatment of thyroid deficiency rarely reverses the laryngeal dysfunction. Megaesophagus may occur concurrently as part of the generalized polyneuropathy, requiring separate management. Laryngeal tumors, though less common, can cause similar respiratory symptoms and should be ruled out during laryngeal examination. Tracheal collapse, brachycephalic obstructive airway syndrome, and other respiratory conditions may present with similar noisy breathing but require different treatment approaches.
