Small, stable cysts in locations that do not interfere with movement, eating, or other functions may require nothing more than monitoring. Larger cysts or those in problematic locations can cause discomfort, restrict movement, interfere with normal grooming, or create secondary skin irritation from pressure or friction. Cysts that rupture spontaneously or are traumatized can become secondarily infected, transforming a benign structure into an abscess that requires more aggressive treatment.
