Bladder stones produce many of the same symptoms, including blood in urine, straining, and pain, and may coexist with tumors. Severe urinary tract infections can cause hematuria and dysuria without the presence of a tumor. Reproductive tract problems in female guinea pigs, including ovarian cysts and uterine tumors, may cause similar signs and can sometimes be confused with bladder issues. Blood clotting disorders may cause bleeding that appears in the urine. Trauma to the urinary tract, while less common, can also produce bloody urine and pain.

Potential complications of bladder tumors extend beyond the direct effects of the tumor itself. Urinary obstruction is one of the most serious complications, potentially leading to bladder rupture, kidney failure, and death if not addressed emergently. Metastasis, or spread of malignant tumors to other organs including lymph nodes, lungs, and liver, significantly worsens prognosis. Secondary infections of the urinary tract or surgical sites can complicate treatment and recovery. Chronic pain and discomfort reduce quality of life and may lead to secondary issues including reduced eating and gastrointestinal problems. Anesthetic and surgical complications are also possible in guinea pigs undergoing treatment, as they are sensitive to anesthesia and require specialized care.
