Advanced disease affecting coronary arteries can contribute to heart failure, while involvement of cerebral vessels may cause neurological symptoms. Peripheral arterial disease can cause limb weakness or pain. Because guinea pigs are prey animals that instinctively hide signs of illness, cardiovascular disease often progresses significantly before owners notice symptoms, making awareness of risk factors and preventive care especially important.
